The Boys of Summer

Aaaaggghhhh! It's summertime and Mom won't let us sit on our butts all day and watch tv and play video games! What's a boy to do? Plenty!

Doesn't Frosty look cool? Like he's sticking his head out of a window in a car? Well, Benjamin kindly provided that sensation for Frosty by sticking a window fan in front of him. Wheeee! Right in the comfort of the family room!

Of course, there's a price for that windy sensation. . . The price of being Ben's entertainment. :)

Wait! Another exciting episode of boys awaits!

From the dawn of time boys have been attracted to sticks. Luckily in our home George left us a few helmets to make the scenario even more fun. Here are Ben, Cody and Tyler playing with weapons of strike. Cody (in red) is swinging a stick with a rope tied to it, trying to hit Tyler and Ben's stick and bat. Swat! Splat! The stick was soon whittled down to nothing - Splintered in an awesome, epic battle.
With the stick incapable of further battering, the boys went onto a plastic bat. Ben had a helmet on. That means he can't get hurt. Protection is a boy's best friend. Each boy took a turn at the helmet, and the batterer. All fun. Don't you wish you were a boy?

Eric, (the father of Crew) decided he was in fact a boy, and joined the fray! Alas, most of his boyhood was gone and he couldn't handle the wrath of 3 boys. He soon left, helmet in hand as he ran. :)

Wait, wait! There's more!

While we live in the city, our cul de sac backs up to a park. Benjamin ran to me on Saturday telling me there were deer in the yard. Deer in deed! There were 5! Here is the buck that lead the group.

Don't despair - there's more!

Jordan and Ben always thought a senior citizen discount at the theater was a great idea, but slightly discriminatory. So - they planned to dress up like a 'senior' and try and get the discount for themselves. Here's their senior getup. (Jordan is on the bottom, Ben on the top.)
I thought it was funny, but wasn't about to let them walk to the theaters by themselves and try it out. (We live about 1/2 a mile from the mall and theaters). As luck would have it we went to see Despicable Me with Mark before he left for Virginia, so it was a perfect time to let the boys try their plan!
First, they got into character in the parking lot.
Dad had to open the door for them as Jordan's field of view was a bit limited. :)
Then the time of reckoning was at hand. They approached the ticket booth and Ben asked for 1 ticket. "One ticket?" the girl questioned. "Yes, one." Ben calmly answered. "Are you sure? I think there's two of you." the girl probed further. "No, there's just one. You see, I'm fat and out of shape." Ben answered, non-plussed. That Ben, he's a smooth one. If it wasn't for his grin - and smooth baby face- he MIGHT have gotten away with it! "No, I'm pretty sure there's two of you." The girl would not give up! "Okay, yeah, you're right" Ben caved. And so, in we went to see Despicable Me. The girl called over some of her co-workers, "You won't believe this! It was the funniest thing I've ever seen...!" And so our boys made her day.

We hope that you too are having some 'boyish' adventures this summer! See - fun CAN happen without a screen!!

Tracy, they are imaginative, albeit a bit delusional. I love Ben's perpetual good cheer! Such fun kids!
