Christmas foilage

I've decided that when I think of something to post on the blog I'll not wait until Sunday. Chances are by then I'll have forgotten it. : )

As I read on everyone's facebook and blogs, and talk to you all on the phone I keep hearing about your cold weather. Count your blessings. I am!

Here are some pics of our Christmas foilage...

Our front door. See the Christmas wreath? Really festive looking, isn't it. : )
This is pandan. Also known as screwpine leaf. My friend Tommy likes the 2nd name better than the first. Anywho, this started out as a small plant no bigger than my palm 2 years ago. They use this in their rice dishes, sweet cakes and wrap it around chicken and fry it. Yum!

This is okra!! I love okra and was so happy to find that the Indian community have some great recipes with it. As you can see it grows REALLY tall here!
Jordan wanted to demonstrate how big the okra is. Jordan is 14 and does NOT have small hands.

This is 3 curry plants. Yes, there is such a thing as a curry plant! I love the smell, but the kids hate it. This started out as one plant up to my knee. It grows underground like a mint. My friend told me that to get the best plant you have to 'pinch' (read steal) it from a friend. You can't just ask for it. Luckily for me my gardener brought me a plant, and it seems to be doing well.
This is our basil. It's a Thai basil because the Italian sweet basil is wimpy here and dies really fast. As you can see, this is in no way anywhere near dying. I've probably thinned it 4 or 5 times.
Ahh Lemon Grass! It smells VERY lemony, but it's itchy when you pick it. You use the bottom part, kind of like the whites of a green onion. It actually smells like lemon Pledge!
Our outdoor decorations. See the Snowman and tree? We couldn't put the wreath up this year because of the plant that grew all over the grating over the last year.

Last, what's Christmas without orchids?

Merry Christmas everyone!!

I must have just caught up with the last month of your postings- I wish I could be there to have adventures with you! Christmas in the tropics is fun too, but when we were in Panama we did have a country that celebrated the holiday.....Please, please move here so that I can eat your cooking!
