Some of you may know by now, Marcus has enlisted in the Navy! Here's how it went down on April Fool's Day.... Marcus went to the MEPS with the recruiter at 8am. They didn't have the medical corpsmen job he wanted the week before, so he came up the 1st of the next month. Jobs should be available. So he waited. Mark got off work at 9am and I drove (so he could snore/sleep) to Denver. We got there about 10ish. Then we waited. And waited. And waited.
Marcus prayed for some insight. His name was finally called to go back and talk to a counselor. This was about 1pm. It was a Nuke recruiter. He told Marcus that there weren't that many jobs available, but would he be interested in Nukes? He was qualified. (It's an elite job, that you must score high on the test, and have other qualifications for.) Marcus had looked into the job (Thanks Uncle Will.) and did have some questions. The recruiter was a Nuke mechanic and told Marcus all about the job, the school and such. It was good info that he wasn't able to find online. Then we waited for a counselor some more. The counselor had 3 jobs, none of them corpsmen. And what about Nuke? Was he interested? Well yes, as a matter of fact, he was! Sign here please. Done.
(See the guy on the left of the pic? Because he was still in high school he was offered corpsmen. That's okay, Marcus got a MUCH better job!)
Then we waited.
After much paperwork, fingerprinting, more paperwork and more fingerprinting (digital the 2nd time) Marcus was sworn in. Yes, I teared up. It's pretty emotional to hear your child promise to serve his country, your country. Our country means a lot to me, especially after living overseas. I get choked up everytime I hear the national anthem or say the Pledge. It's a wonderful country we live in. And now my son gets to be a part of it's greatness and protection. So Marcus is now in the Naval Reserves until he ships out in December. We are so very proud of him. He has told the recruiters that if there is an opening he is ready to go! In the meantime he's studying his Bluejacket Manual and working on his fitness. Welcome to the Navy my son. They couldn't have recruited a finer young man!!
