Easter is a little different these days. Gone are the baskets, the hiding and hunting of eggs.
Teenagers just want different things.
We have kept some traditons though. We kept the bunny tradition. This is our Easter bunny. After creating him with yummy homemade dough we put dip in his belly and surround him with healthy vegetables (to help counter all the candy that day!). Last we can eat him!
But - as I said it's different with teens.
This is how one of our teens described it: This bunny will be sacrificed today. After taking him from the hot oven we'll disembowel him, fill his insides with white pasty stuff and then rip him apart. Yum.
When the kids were really little I'd create themed baskets. One year they had all the stuff to make homemade kites! This year Mark and I remembered it was Easter on Sunday while grocery shopping on Saturday. Whew! Just in time!
So we collected candies (then put half back - we only have 2 at home now!) and then brought the goodies home with the groceries. I told the boys, "Those bags on the table have your Easter candy in them. Don't look." Believe it or not, that worked!
The next morning I awoke to the sound of Ben pouring the candy into bowls. I used to do that too. It's nice having big kids sometimes. :)
For some reason another tradition my kids have developed is building with copious amounts of candy. I guess that's a good thing. They see candy as more than just something to eat. :) Here Ben shows me that Reeses cups are great for bridges. :)
Better than the golden egg - the double M&M!
Not Easter.
Jordan is graduating this year! He was called for an interview for an internship at an IT company just a few miles from home. We did mock interviews with him and made sure he knew what I had written in his resume. :) Doesn't he look all grown up!
Jordan likes parkour or free-running. Also known as the French art of running away.
He found out that there were a few parkour gyms in our area so during Spring Break I took him and a friend to one.
Urban Evolution was cool. Look, even their parking lot had cool graphic art.
These are obstacles that Jordan will learn to run, jump, and sail over. Again, cool graffiti.
I like the bottom line, "Willingness to be ninja". I'm there.
Last year while Mark was in Afghanistan the boys started a new Easter tradition.
Here is the continuance.
Happy Easter everyone.
