I'm trying Blogger's new interface for this post. First thing - I don't have to put the pictures in backwards order - so you get to see pictures in the reverse order they were taken! Aren't you special? :)
Our new community has lots of nice cars and money. Mark was enthralled by this roadster at the Asian market. Yes, I have found the Asian market. It's my favorite grocery store. Of course. Any grocery store is good if 1. It has produce in it I don't recognize and 2. It has more than 4 varieties of eggplant.
The obligatory food post. I tried a new bread. This was pumpkin spice with walnuts. It tasted yummy, but the holes were too big from the walnuts. I'll need to revamp that recipe before I attempt it again.
I went house hunting with my sister, Sarah. She found a very nice home. And also the rare opportunity to have a blimp station nearby! Is that the coolest or what!
Sarah and I availed ourselves of some local shopping. We thought these shoes would go perfectly with...
this Cobra-adorned dress. What do you think? Too much? :P Our second choice we didn't get a picture of. It was a gold-Jesus head as big as your head to accessorize your gold chain necklace with. The fashion choices Sarah will have will be endless in her new home. ;)
Culture! We took the kids to D.C. to see the Newseum. http://www.newseum.org/ Sooo cool! This is a part of the Berlin Wall. They also had a real tower from the Wall and lots of other really neat stuff. For the summer they ran a promotion - buy 1 adult ticket and up to 10 kids under 18 got in free with you. A deal.
Next on the culture list - a gun museum! We will definitely be taking Granpa to the NRA National Firearms Museum www.nramuseum.org when he comes! I was surprised - it was even interesting for me. I had been thinking - guns, how long can I look at guns? I even made sure my phone was fully charged so I could play games or read a book, but I didn't need to!
A bonus in moving here is time with family. The night the hurricane was to strike we went to Jon's house and had dinner with he and Julie and Sarah and Will. Will really liked the boy's inflatable ball.
You know how I mentioned the hurricane just now? Well that struck the same week as the earthquake. Yes, Virginia has been exciting! We were able to go to the temple the weekend of the hurricane, right after the earthquake. The temple's spires were damaged. See if you can see which ones are missing! (Hint: 4 are missing)
With any new move you must make trips to set up your home. Here are my shopping companions.
Window shopping.
After the earthquake we felt it necessary to have an alternate means of cooking in case the electricity went out. Here are my handymen assembling our new grill.
Remember those watermelon popsicles I mentioned? Well, the kids weren't too crazy about the jalapeno in them and asked me to make them some without the jalapeno. This was after I had just made a batch WITH jalapeno. So I happily made them some, specially for them. Then I had to label them so they would know which ones were theirs - not spicy. I thought I was pretty clever and giggled everytime I opened the freezer. :)
Remember I told you that Frosty liked to sun himself on the deck. This episode he decided to join Ben. Unfortunately for Ben Frosty hogged the blanket when Ben moved! LOL.
Frost also has had to get used to a new bathing protocol. He does not like baths. Or showers. But Ben stands guard while Jordan ushers him in for the requisite dowsing.
Tah Dah! There is our August!
