Part of our family traditions is eating together. For our last night together after Taylor's wedding we all went out for sushi. Here is a sampling of what we ate. . .
Earlier in the day Jake (my brother) had taken on the role of educational uncle - teaching the cousins how to properly do a jack-knife and cannonball at the pool. (Look for a blog posting soon with pics!). With only adults, Jake still felt inspirational and so took to task a competition between he and Eric. What better way to welcome him into the family!
The competition? Wasabi. The largest clump. The first to shed a tear loses. Eric was up to the challenge. (Funny note. Eric wasn't thrilled about going to sushi. He eats large amounts of food. Sushi is small amounts, at large prices.)
And so Eric took his first swallow of sushi. . . And then he took a breath. . .
No tear was coming forth from his face. No way. No how. He even tilted his head back to prevent one from running down his face!
Jake didn't know whether to laugh or not. You see, laughing would entail breathing in. Not a good thing with a wad of wasabi in your mouth! As you can see though, it was getting to him also. He's not normally so ruddy in complexion!
Eric finally caved and took a breath. What a great guy, ending with a laugh and smile whilst burning your nasal cavities! Yay Eric! (As a side note, Eric said he no longer had any appetite and highly recommends taking a spoonful of wasabi to help curb your cravings!)
