It has been an AMAZING journey these past 11 days. We started in Hanoi (north) and traveled by train, bus and car all the way south to Saigon. We were in a different hotel and city EVERY night! Only here in Saigon have we had two nights in the same hotel. Yes, we are tired!!
It is hot here in Saigon. It's been hot all over, but here even more so. I so appreciate my dad and his time here, twice- and the heat he had to endure. I can walk outside for 10 minutes and be dripping with sweat. I have a tshirt and shorts - but my Dad had Army fatigues on!
The people are kind here. The food is great, though we are all getting tired of it a bit. I LOVE the beef noodle soup (Pho Bo) but it's hot! Yesterday we had some Pho Bo at the VietCong Saigon headquarters. It was a humble little noodle shop, you would have never know it was the headquarters for the VC underground!
This morning there was another funeral (Our first was in Nha Trang) right out front of our hotel. Such festive occasions! I really am considering a marching band for my own funeral. It's fun! They throw fake paper money out while they parade by. I picked up some on Nha Trang. Funny, there's Ben Franklin on it! I'll post pictures of it later. It's meant to look like a U.S. bill, I think a million dollars. I'll have to check.
I think I may have to start another blog just for the photos and stories I want to share about our journey.
Things to look foward to:
- Hanoi water puppets
- street food
- Hue - Citadel and Purple Forbidden palace
- Hoi An - wool coat and white roses
- Nha Trang - beach and rain
- Night Bus (Harry Potter style!)
- Halong Bay - boat sleeper
- Mui Ne - kite surfing
- My Son - ancient ruins
- Saigon - cyclo drivers, ice cream
- Khe San - old military mountain-top base
- DMZ

A throw down, between 2 dead people! LOL - How about we share? Then we can have a REALLY big BAND!!
Ok, so I want "Hey Jude" and "Don't Worry, Be Happy" and Pink's "So What". What do you want for our musical entourage? :)
