America - land of the free - times!

Our long journey led to fruitful ends - America!

We left our home at 10pm. Traffic was unusually heavy. We learned that at 7pm the government had announced that gas prices were to increase by 78 sen per liter at midnight. (Gas is usually 1. 94 a liter. The government subsidizes gas- hence controls the prices.) As we travelled the freeway, ALL gas stations had lines and lines 2 and 3 cars deep, trying to fill up before midnight. This led to certain areas of the freeway being blocked by those in line.

All went smoothly at the airport. (This is not always so with government tickets and 6 people!) We boarded our 6 hour flight to Korea and quickly grabbed extra seats as the flight wasn't full. I was fortunate enough to have 4 seats and actually got to lay down for the flight and get some sleep!
We found various ways to keep ourselves occupied on the mutliple flights...

Another oddity for our travels, we didn't have long layovers. We hit the ground in Korea, ran to our next gate (across the airport - of course) and boarded our next 14-hour flight within 30 minutes! We weren't so lucky this leg and the plane was PACKED. But - we had good movies and Casey figured it was a 7-movie trip! I love how my kids don't even flinch about long flights! Korean Air is nice to fly on because we have our own screens for movies, maps, music and more. Ben, Mark, Marcus and I played Yahtzee and Tetris against each other for breaks in the movie marathon. Casey took some pics of Ben with the amazing sunsets we saw through our windows.

When we hit Atlanta we were tired, but anxious as the last leg of our trip was within sight! We were welcomed to the U.S. with smells of hotdogs. PORK! In plain view and not sold by Chinese! While I salivated over the smells of hot dogs and BBQ, we weren't hungry, having recently eaten Korean noodles on board. We settled instead for fruit shakes while we waited our longest thus far 1 1/2 hours- for our flight to Austin.
Ben slept every chance he got. On the 1 hour flight to Austin, or at the car rental agency he fouond a place to sleep. Jordan is amazing in the contortions he can sleep in.

Tommy and Adrianne Williams met us at the escalator in Austin. Whoopeee!! No more planes!! We were tired, oh we were tired. It was now 4am in the morning for us, more than 24 hours after we had taken off. We had been up and traveling for more than 2 days. Sometimes I think it would be easier to go on a ship - but at least air travel was MUCH faster!

We arrived "home" at the Williams, settled in, played a bit of Rock band and then went to bed at about 9. Slept through the night and awoke at 4-5. Our adventures had begun!

Rock band. Casey is probably singing on the couch. They log in at least 3 hours a day on this. They're pretty good!
